The Cisco Meraki MS420 is the world’s first cloud-managed 10 Gigabit Ethernet aggregation switch bringing the benefits of the cloud: simplified management, reduced complexity, network wide visibility and control, and lower cost for campus deployments.

A FRESH APPROACH

Meraki switches are built from the ground up to be easy to manage without compromising any of the power and flexibility traditionally found in enterprise-class switches.

Cisco Meraki switches are managed through an elegant, intuitive cloud interface, rather than a cryptic command line. To bring up a Meraki switch, just plug it in; there’s no need for complicated configuration files, or even direct physical access to the switch.

Meraki’s centralized management gives administrators deep visibility into the network and how it’s used. See which switches are near capacity across hundreds of sites. Find all configuration changes made by anyone with instant search.

INDUSTRY-BEST CLOUD MANAGEMENT

Cloud management has a number of benefits

that make it easier to build any size network:

• Single pane of glass management of distributed

switch deployments, wireless APs, and firewalls

across multiple sites through the browser

• Virtual stacking: manage up to thousands of

ports from a single pane of glass

• Layer 7 visibility with operating system, client,

   and hostname fingerprinting

• Powerful Live Tools such as packet capture and

cable test to isolate network issues

• Alerts power loss, downtime, or configuration

   changes

• Role-based administration and automatic,

scheduled firmware upgrades over the web

• Regular feature updates and enhancements

Layer 7 Visibility

Layer 7 visibility, previously available only through costly overlay appliances, is included in Cisco Meraki switches at no additional cost. Hundreds of applications are automatically identified and reported, from business apps to BitTorrent and YouTube.

Packet processing engine

A modular and flexible packet processing engine delivers consistent, high-performance application traffic analysis within product families and across product lines.

Deep packet inspection

Going far beyond IP addresses, hostnames, and ports, Layer 7 deep packet inspection uses heuristics-based identification to classify traffic based on application, even identifying evasive, dynamic, and encapsulated apps.

Cloud-based application signatures

The Meraki cloud-based application signature database is constantly identifying new, changing applications without requiring the  download and installtion of software updates.

Stacking

Cloud configuration ensures management isn't a laborious task when switches are geographically dispersed. Bulk configuration changes, updates, and troubleshooting are done seamlessly through a single dashboard, even for large groups of switches.

Scalable management architecture

means  there are no expensive feature or support licenses to pay for and no requirement for proprietary cables either.

Stack switches physically or virtually

Switches can be managed and  grouped together into virtual stacks using tags, or even managed all at once.

Zero-touch deployments

Leverage the power of centralized cloud management to pre-stage switches and virtual stacks before they are even deployed.

Voice Optimization

Cisco Meraki switches include all the features needed to easily deploy business-grade voice over IP telephony in next to no time.

Network Topology

Network topology helps IT admins

quickly see and troubleshoot

connections at a glance, and it’s

built right into the MS dashboard.

Intelligent mapping of

physical links

Network topology automatically

maps network architectures,

showing how Meraki security,

switching, and wireless devices

are connected—including

redundant links disabled by the

Spanning Tree Protocol to

prevent data loops.

Dynamic device searching

Quickly zero in on the devices that matter by using the dynamic search tools available in the topology dashboard view.

Usage statistics and status

See at a glance where trouble lies on your network: devices displayed in the topology view are color-coded based on connectivity health.

Layer 3 Scalability

Meraki switches simplify expansion, reduce congestion, and provide redundancy for  critical environments.

Scalable Routing Architecture

Our graphical implementation of OSPF reduces the chance of error due to manual setup since there is no need to remember complex command lines or fret about a mistype.

Optimized, Secure Traffic Flow

OSPF’s routing algorithm automatically factors link costs (such as link bandwidth and availability) to calculate optimal pathways for routing packets from point A to point B.

High Availability

Redundancy is a key  part of the Meraki MS layer 3 implementation. If a switch hosting DHCP service fails over to a warm spare, DHCP service will seamlessly transition to the backup switch.

Enterprise Security

Protecting your wired network is vital and so Cisco Meraki switches employ several security features to lock down ports and communications across the network.

Remote Live Tools

Cisco Meraki switches include a range of management features designed to keep an Ethernet network running smoothly and helping to avoid costly site visits.

Real-Time Cloud Management

Back

to Top

Meraki's patented real time communication protocols enable administrators to manage networks from the cloud, without sacrificing control and responsiveness. Meraki has developed a purpose-built protocol that delivers rich bi-directional information securely, with minimal bandwidth overhead.

Meraki devices — wireless APs, switches, and security appliances — provide a rich stream of real time information to the Meraki cloud. This communication is key to the extensive visibility and control afforded by the Meraki platform. Instead of burdening the network with high overhead, poor responsiveness, and complex configuration, Meraki engineers developed and patented a lightweight, secure, zero-configuration control tunnel that provides rich real-time data without compromising efficiency.

The award-winning Meraki cloud management architecture provides powerful and intuitive centralized management, while eliminating the cost and complexity of traditional on-site wireless controllers. Seamlessly manage campus-wide WiFi deployments and distributed multi-site networks with zero-touch access point provisioning, network-wide visibility and control, cloud-based RF optimization, seamless firmware updates and more. With an intuitive browser interface, Meraki WLANs configure in minutes without training or dedicated staff.

Adding new sites to a network takes minutes, not hours or days, and there's no need to train additional staff to monitor or manage the remote networks. Meraki devices self-provision, enabling large campus and multi-site deployments without on-site IT.

Meraki's control tunnel supports seamless high availability. Every Meraki network is backed by at least three independent datacenters, and the management tunnel between Meraki devices and the cloud automatically connects to the right datacenters, handling failover seamlessly.

By providing a complete,

powerful set of management

functions over the web,

Meraki’s cloud-based management eliminates the need for proprietary command line configuration interfaces which require expensive and time consuming certifications.

The Cisco Meraki MS brings the benefits of the cloud to networks of all sizes: simplified management, reduced complexity, network wide visibility and control, with lower operational cost for campus and branch deployments. Cisco Meraki access switching is available in both Layer 2 and powerful Layer 3 models. Mission-critical features — like deep, Layer 7 application visibility, network topology, virtual stacking, QoS for business critical applications, 802.1X access control, and more — are present in all models.

The Meraki MS family also includes several remote diagnostic features, from network connectivity and cable integrity tests to latency measurement tools. For deep client troubleshooting, administrators can even perform per-port remote pcap packet captures without any additional probes or hardware on site.
